We all know a glass of wine, or two on Valentines Day is almost non-negotiable. You can turn your glass of Pinot Grigio into a superfood love potion by adding just one ingredient!
What you need to do
Add 1-2 tablespoons of goji berries into 6-8oz of your favorite wine and sip away!
Why are they great
Goji berries go back a long way in Traditional Chinese Medicine for their benefits as an aphrodisiac. These little berries help improve sexual health and drive. It also doesn’t hurt that it is a good source of antioxidants, vitamin C, fibre, vitamin A, and iron, just to name a few.
If you find that you have a handful of leftover goji berries, add them to your smoothie bowls, homemade muffins, soups, or simply have them as a healthy snack. Enjoy!
While the holidays are a time for indulgence, there are a few things we can do to make this season a little less sinful. Try swapping a traditional dish, for something a little more detox-friendly. Here we have a cauliflower mash recipe, a perfect swap for mashed potatoes!
Cauliflower contains glucosinolates, which are sulfur-containing compounds. Glucosinolates help the body detox by supporting your liver and phase 2 detoxification.
What You Need
2 ½ cauliflower, whole head, separated into florets
2 ½ garlic, whole bulb
2 ½ teaspoon olive oil
5 teaspoons thyme fresh chopped
1 tablespoon chopped chive
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Slice ¼” from the head of garlic and drizzle olive oil over the exposed cloves. Wrap garlic in aluminum foil and roast for 40-50 minutes, until soft. Remove from oven and cool until you can handle it.
Steam the cauliflower until very tender about 10 minutes
Transfer cauliflower to a food processor. Pulse the cauliflower mixture until there are no lumps and it’s smooth like mashed potatoes. This may take a few minutes.
As hard as it is to believe, the holiday season is just around the corner. For many, this means falling off the healthy eating wagon and slacking on workout routines, because who can resist sugar cookies? Here’s the good news — you don’t have to give those up! We have three easy ways to kick-start your new years detox before the holidays, without cutting out your favourite holiday treats!
1. Detox Your Underarms
Switching to a natural, charcoal deodorant is an easy change that makes a great difference for your body.
Antiperspirants, which contain toxic ingredients, including aluminum – block pores, thereby preventing you from sweating. This also traps toxins within the body! By switching to natural deodorant, your pores are free to breathe. Take the 30 day challenge of detoxing your underarms by using the takesumi detox® charcoal deodorant!
Don’t just detox from the inside, detox from the outside too! Detox your skin so it glows this holiday season!
Dry brushing is a hidden gem in the detoxing world and is amazing for treating dull, congested skin. It works by stimulating your lymphatic system and expelling waste and toxin build up.
The best part about dry brushing? It’s super easy! Just take it from Province Apothecary founder Julie, who dry brushes her face daily. “Facial Dry Brushing is my favourite morning ritual to effectively detoxify and wake up my face. It takes less than 1 minute to do and the benefits are endless.”
*PRO TIP: It’s important that you dry brush first thing in the morning (on dry skin) to kick-start the body’s natural lymphatic detoxification system that has been asleep all night.
3. Detox Your Body With Matcha
There’s no better way to detoxify your insides than with matcha!
Made with high levels of chlorophyll, matcha works to eliminate unwanted toxins, chemicals and heavy metals from your body. It’s also great for reducing stress, increasing energy levels and boosting memory and concentration!
