You might have the most amazing skincare routine, but if you’re applying your products in the wrong order, you can prevent your skin from receiving the full benefits:
For once and for all, here is the step-by-step on how to layer your skincare products:
STEP 1: CLEANSER
Morning or/and night, start with cleanser. Apply to wet skin and massage over face and neck. Rinse.
STEP 2: EXFOLIATOR
Exfoliate once or twice weekly to tackle built-up dirt and oil, reduce dullness, and sweep away dead skin cells. Exfoliate once or twice to tackle built-up dirt.
STEP 3: TONER
Applying a balancing toner is a good idea as a final cleansing step, to restore your skin’s pH and prep it for treatment products.
STEP 4: SERUMS
Serums are chock full of powerful ingredients (think: antioxidants, retinol, and hyaluronic acid), we want to apply them early in our routines so our skin can really soak up the good stuff.
STEP 5: EYE CREAM
Give your eyes the love they need with an eye cream. The skin under your eyes is the thinnest on your face, so your eye-specific products need to go on before heavier moisturizer. Use a pea-sized amount using your ring finger.
STEP 6: MOISTURIZER
Now, you can lock everything in with a moisturizer.
STEP 7: SPF
Don’t forget to layer sunscreen as a last step, where you can most effectively fight UV rays.
