5 Ways To Naturally Whiten Teeth
Traditional teeth whitening products like whitening strips can be very harsh on the tooth enamel and increase tooth sensitivity. That being said, many people feel self conscious about their smile and associate pearly whites with a healthy mouth. Today, I’m going to be sharing 5 gentle and natural ways you can whiten your teeth at home.
1. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR (ACV)
The magic ingredient! If you didn’t see my last post on 5 ways to use ACV, make sure you do! Apart from those 5 reasons, turns out apple cider vinegar is great for stain removal! The acetic acid is amazing at killing bad bacteria and ACV’s acidic pH is very effective at breaking down plaque and stains!
TIP: Soak a cloth in ACV and gently rub on your teeth for 30 – 60 seconds. Rinse well with water after.
We also share 5 antibacterial uses of apple cider vinegar here.
2. LEMON RINDS
Similar to ACV, lemon peels have CITRIC ACID – a powerful ingredient that removes stains. Though this is a natural remedy, citric acid is strong and it’s important to use it gently and moderately to ensure enamel health.
TIP: Gently rub a lemon rind on your teeth for 30 – 60 seconds. Rinse well with water after.
3. STRAWBERRIES
This is probably the yummiest remedy I’m sharing today. Just like lemon rinds, strawberries are rich in citric acid. They also have a little bit of MALIC ACID (also found in apples) and the two acids combined are great at breaking down plaque.
TIP: Mash up 2-3 strawberries and gently rub on your teeth for 30 – 60 seconds. Rinse well with water after.
4. COCONUT OIL PULLING
SURPRISE! As much as I don’t like coconut oil for the skin, it does have some redeeming qualities- especially when it comes to plaque removal! The LAURIC ACID and CAPRIC ACID in coconut oil have potent antibacterial properties that tackle teeth staining plaque!
TIP: Put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 5 – 20 minutes. Or add a few drops to on your toothbrush and brush your teeth as normal. Rinse well with water after.
5. ACTIVATED CHARCOAL
Don’t be afraid of its color! Even though it’s black, activated charcoal can actually help to REMOVE stains from your teeth because of its detoxifying properties. We haven’t added this ingredient to many of our products for no reason!
TIP: Dip a wet toothbrush in activated charcoal and brush as normal. Rinse well with water after.
Remember, though these are natural options, they are still POWERFUL and should be used in moderation to avoid damaging your tooth enamel.
