HOW TO MANAGE ARMPIT SWEATING, EVEN IN A HEATWAVE
With many parts of the world experiencing record-setting heatwaves, excess armpit sweating is inevitable. Not only is it uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing to see those sweat marks through clothes, but excess armpit sweating can lead to irritation, rashes and chafing.
What should you do if you want to avoid antiperspirants due to suspicions surrounding aluminum chloride but want to stay dry and comfortable?
Here are my best tips to help you manage armpit sweating during a heatwave.
WHAT DOES EXTREME HEAT DO TO THE BODY?
Two main things happen to our bodies when in an extreme heat situation: sweat and dilated blood vessels.
1. BLOOD VESSELS DIALATE
Dilated blood vessels increase blood flow towards the skin allowing more heat to be lost to the environment, but this also results in lower blood pressure which makes the heart work harder to pump blood and can result in heart-related complications.
2. EXCESS SWEATING
Sweat is necessary as it cools the body down when it evaporates off the skin and helps to maintain the ideal internal body temperature. However, excess sweating can lead to a loss of salt from the body and extreme cases can result in nausea and headaches.
Excess sweat can also cause heat rashes, chafing and skin irritations especially in the armpit and groin areas where there are naturally more skin folds and friction.
