The benefits of aluminum-free charcoal deodorant lie in the activated charcoal itself, which is highly porous and absorbs bacteria and impurities that cause body odor. This deodorant is free of baking soda, which often causes rashes due to its alkalinity.  

Charcoal is also known to help absorb moisture better than many other natural deodorants. Charcoal is also gentle on the skin, so it is suitable for sensitive underarms. This award-winning formula has a cream-powder finish with solid moisture absorbing coverage thanks to the inclusion of clay, which helps provide a heavy barrier against sweat.  The deodorant also contains a fermentation extract which controls underarm bacteria.

Apply a generous application of deodorant to clean, dry underarms daily. The charcoal deodorant is the 2nd step of our two-step hygiene routine. (We suggest using our charcoal underarm bar prior to application of our charcoal deodorant.) 

This deodorant has a cream-powder finish and will not stain underarms or clothing, we suggest you wait a few minutes before dressing in order to allow the deodorant to absorb into skin. If you experience excess sweat, we recommend our 3-step hygiene routine that includes the sweat powder to absorb excess moisture.

As temperatures rise and heat waves last longer, natural deodorants face new performance challenges. To make sure your deodorant stays smooth, stable, and effective in hotter climates, we increased the powder content in the formula. We chose kaolin clay—a gentle, ultra‑fine mineral powder—to enhance sweat absorption and improve heat resistance, giving you a drier, more reliable application all summer long.

No — this is the most common concern people have before they try it, and it's unfounded. Despite the charcoal giving the formula its grey color in the stick, the deodorant goes on completely clear and dries to a powder finish. It contains no aluminum (the compound that reacts with sweat to cause yellow staining), and it won't leave white marks on dark clothing if you wait 10 min before dressing.

Our charcoal deodorant is formulated specifically for sensitive underarms.  

Many traditional deodorants rely on alkaline baking soda and high levels of fragrance, both of which can disrupt the delicate underarm skin barrier. Baking soda has a high pH, which can lead to redness, stinging, and a burning sensation, especially on freshly shaved or sensitive skin. Heavy fragrance loads can also trigger irritation, dryness, or allergic reactions. 

This is exactly why our charcoal deodorant avoids these triggers. Instead of harsh actives, it uses topical charcoal, soothing kaolin clay, low‑fragrance levels, and no alkaline baking soda — a gentler approach that respects sensitive underarms while still keeping odor and moisture in check.  

Specialty Deodorants that use acids like AHA and BHA deodorants are risky for sensitive underarms? AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy acids) are powerful exfoliating acids commonly used in facial skincare. In deodorants, they’re used to lower the underarm’s pH and exfoliate bacteria‑prone skin—but these acids can be too strong for the thin, delicate underarm area. 

Here’s why they can cause issues: 

  • AHA acids (like glycolic, lactic, mandelic) can cause stinging, burning, and rawness, especially on freshly shaved skin. 
  • BHA acids (like salicylic acid) penetrate deeper and can lead to peeling, irritation, and sensitivity flare‑ups. 
  • Underarm skin is thinner and more reactive than facial skin, making acids more likely to cause discomfort. 
  • Acids can disrupt the skin barrier, leading to redness, dryness, and increased sensitivity over time.

You'll sweat the same amount you naturally would.   Antiperspirants work by plugging sweat ducts with aluminum salts to physically block perspiration. The Charcoal Deodorant doesn't block sweat — instead, it neutralizes the odor from the skin. It uses natural powders to help absorb the sweat Arrowroot Powder a natural moisture absorber.

Odor thrives in moist environments, so by keeping the underarm drier, arrowroot reduces the conditions bacteria need to produce odor molecules. It also uses Kaolin Clay which absorbs sweat and sebum and also binds odor‑causing compounds. It helps keep the underarm area dry and reduces the intensity of malodor.

There is no one-size fits all formula for any deodorant; this includes those that are not natural.  Trying and understanding how deodorants works and how to get the best results is the key.

I bought this due to an emergency

I bought this due to an emergency as I forgot to put my deodorant on before I went out and I've been using all natural deodorant since 2020 and luckily I found an all natural store downtown who had this brand available and I was sold on the smell alone of the Sakura blossom but the ingredients really made me want to try it out. Immediately the smell and the formula of the product was felt and I found it worked immediately. I switched to all natural deodorant due to sensitive skin reasons so I'm very cautious when buying anything new but I was so happy with this product. 10/10 would recommend trying especially if your switching to all natural deodorant for the first time and especially if you have super sensitive skin like myself.

Truly amazed!! Bought this a week ago and i am already two tone lighter!!

I bought this deodorant along with the brightening soap and powder just a week ago, and I’m honestly amazed at the results. It’s been a total game-changer for me! My underarms are already at least two tones lighter, and they feel smoother and fresher. I’ve tried so many products before, but nothing has worked this quickly. New formula doesn't work

Have used this for years and it was great, but the formula recently changed and now no longer works at all -- worse than wearing no deodorant. Still using the soap, but will not buy the deodorant again unless it gets fixed. Whatever the reason for the change, I wish they would have just released it as a totally new product and kept the original formula as an option. Have tried so many natural deodorants and this was the only one that did not cause irritation.

Your experience is important to us, and we take full responsibility as we had a small batch that went out and we discovered that it was drying out. I am the founder and the product developer, and I want to let you know that I reformulated because as our summers are getting much hotter and I wanted to add more powder to absorb sweat. What happed was we added more but after testing we discovered it performed differently than our testing results when we went into production but we did not see this until after a few months when consumers started using it there was a problem we were unable to recall but when consumers complained we sent them a new batch that addressed the problem. The new one is amazing and so much better. I am so sorry you got one that was a problem (I think as I would need the batch number but from the timing of this complaint, I am almost positive you got one of the malfunctioning batches. I truly apologize and we want to send you a new one please email me a productaffairs@kaianaturals.com with your address and which scent you would like and I will send you a new product. I am so sorry about this and the long explanation but I want to ensure you are happy with the new formulation.

Working to remove armpit smells

I think I had about 3 weeks of the stinkiness going on. In order to remove any lingering smells on clothes, I needed to use super hot water in the laundry. I recommend that you wear clothes during this period that you can wash in hot water. Right before a workout, I just reapply to help with any smells from the sweat.

Love this product, BUT...

I've been buying this deodorant for years and I love it: highly effective, smells fantastic, quality ingredients. My ONE COMPLAINT: packaging. From the first-use materials the product is boxed in, to the non-recyclable plastic tube the deodorant is contained in - totally vexing! And if the company can't update in this area, why not also sell minimally packaged refills. This is a BIG MISS in my opinion. I hope there is improvement in this matter soon.

Great advancement deodorant.

I purchased charcoal deodorant to aid with odour and bacteria control. It is grey in colour and glides on white, not staining any ofmy clothing. Sakura Blossom is a pleasantly fresh scent. Safe use for delicate individuals such as pregnant & breastfeeding women. So then, it must be safe for all. I like this product and have been using the trio daily for ultimate freshness freedom. I was pleasantly surprised that it helped with the odor. I wore it for 12 hours and did not smell! The only thing I find somewhat uncomfortable is the application. The deodorant is very hard and doesn't smear easily, which hurts a little. Other than that, great deodorant.
