FAQ's
People with:
- dullness
- uneven tone
- mild discoloration
- texture issues
- underarm or body areas that need brightening maintenance
People with deep hyperpigmentation (melasma, old PIH, scars) will need a leave‑on brightener in addition to this bar this is why we suggest using this bar in tantum with the brightening deodorant.
This is a good question most people don't ask? . Most skincare actives do require prolonged contact time to penetrate deeply — serums and leave-on treatments work partly because they sit on the skin for hours. Rinse-off kojic acid works differently: it delivers a short, consistent hit of tyrosinase inhibition at the skin's surface every single day. The cumulative effect of daily brief contact — paired with a leave on brightening product can show significant results without damaging the skin barrier with harsh brightening ingredients.
It's a genuinely meaningful ingredient distinction. Regular kojic acid is chemically unstable — it oxidizes when exposed to air and light, turning products yellow and reducing efficacy over time.
Kojic acid dipalmitate is a lipid-soluble ester derivative of kojic acid that is significantly more stable, doesn't discolour, and is considered more suitable for sensitive skin and skin of colour because it's less likely to cause contact irritation. Dermatologists recommend it specifically for these reasons. The formula works exactly as intended from first use to last, not just when the bar is fresh.
Yes — and this is one of the most important things to understand about any melanin-inhibiting ingredient. Kojic acid reduces melanin production, and melanin is your skin's natural defence against UV radiation. Less melanin in treated areas means those areas are temporarily more vulnerable to UV damage.
If you're treating your underarms, knees, or elbows and then exposing those areas to the sun without protection, you can reverse your progress — and in some cases trigger new hyperpigmentation from the UV exposure. For underarms, this is low-risk since they're rarely sun-exposed. For knees, elbows, hands, or inner thighs that see sunlight, apply SPF 30+ to treated areas when outdoors. This isn't optional if you want your results to hold.
The bar works on any area of the body experiencing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the dark marks left after skin heals from any injury. This includes ingrown hair scars on the bikini line or legs, back or chest acne blemish marks (sometimes called bacne scars), dark spots on the buttocks, insect bite marks that have left pigment behind, and age/liver spots on the hands.
The 30-second massage application works the same way everywhere: moisten the bar, lather, apply to the specific area, massage gently, let sit briefly, rinse. Use it only on the affected spot, not as a full-body wash — the actives are meant for targeted treatment, and the sea salt concentration is too drying for all-over use. USING EVERYDAY IS KEY, STOP USING IT AND RESULTS WILL TAKE LONGER.
The white appearance of the bar comes from titanium dioxide in the formula, which acts as a stabiliser for the kojic acid. However, it lathers and rinses completely clean — there is no white cast, residue, or film left on the skin after rinsing. People with all skin tones use this daily without any visible residue issue. If you're patch-testing and notice the lather appearing white in your palm, that's expected and washes away entirely.
You don't have to choose — but you should understand what each does. The Underarm Bar (charcoal + ACV) is designed to eliminate odour-causing bacteria and extend deodorant wear time. It does not brighten. The Brightening Bar inhibits melanin overproduction and fades dark spots. It also has some antibacterial benefit from its sea salt content, but it's not as focused on bacteria as the Underarm Bar.
If dark underarms are your primary concern, switch to the Brightening Bar as your Step 1 and pair it with the Brightening Deodorant as Step 2. If odour is your primary concern with no darkening issue, keep the Underarm Bar and use the Charcoal Deodorant. If you have both concerns — which many people do — the Brightening Bar handles both adequately, and the 2-step Bright system addresses both simultaneously.
Both work, but the approach depends on frequency. A silicone exfoliating brush increases the mechanical exfoliation effect, which helps remove the outer layer of pigmented skin cells faster and helps the kojic acid penetrate more effectively. Use it freely if you're exfoliating the area no more than twice a week. If you're already doing more exfoliation than that — with a scrub, chemical exfoliant, or washcloth — use your hands for the bar to avoid over-exfoliating, which causes micro-inflammation and, ironically, more pigmentation. For underarms specifically: gentle is always better. The skin there is thin and reactive. The 30-second lather-and-rinse is already doing meaningful work without aggressive scrubbing.
Results are maintainable without permanent daily use — but you do need to keep the triggering conditions under control. Once your hyperpigmentation has faded to your satisfaction, you can reduce to every other day or a few times a week for maintenance. However: if you go back to a deodorant with aluminum or baking soda, start shaving without protection, or wear tight synthetic fabrics that create ongoing friction, the inflammation cycle restarts and pigmentation can return. The bar is most effective when you treat it as part of a longer-term approach to skin health rather than a one-time fix. Many people keep it in their shower rotation permanently because it also functions as a gentle daily cleanser for their targeted areas — and because the cost of occasional prevention is lower than the cost of treating new darkening from scratch.
